On Men and Internet

A lot has been said about almighty Internet and I apologize if I repeat somebody else's thoughts.  I believe that Internet is the greatest invention of modern days. I will try to explain it below.
What keeps me fascinating is a flexibility of Internet. Gutenberg's printed Bible is another thing I can compare the importance of Internet introduction to the world. Due to Internet I can communicate with my family 20,000 miles away from here. Thanks to Internet I can practice and improve my Turkish. Because of Internet, I can sign up for a free online Computer Science 101 class taught at Stanford University by Nick Parlante, which I could never afford otherwise. I took my Precalculus I class entirely on Internet and I scored A. I can order cheap books for my next quarter from Amazon.com. I can promote my wife's the Jezve Foundation, which aims to help Muslim women to launch business on Internet.
In so many words, I wanted to say that Internet has changed the way world goes round, the way we live. Internet provides tones of free information which 20 years ago we would have to collect piece by piece. Internet allows us to work and shop without a need to leave the cozy sofa or, vice versa, thousands miles away from office. Eventually, Internet  gives all of us more freedom to think, work and organize our leisure the way we want it.
More freedom - is not it what Internet is essentially all about?

Benefits and disadvantages of cloud hosting

Benefits and disadvantages of cloud hosting

Once used solely by government agencies, cloud hosting is becoming more and more popular with both large and small businesses. Wikipedia describes cloud computing as "a style of computing in which dynamically scalable and often virtualized resources are provided as a service over the internet." Regardless of the growing popularity of the cloud hosting, it may or may not be a best solution for a particular business. Let's take a look at benefits and disadvantages of could hosting.

Benefits

Hosting information on an outsourced system can really free up space and cut costs. It can be a great solution for those who are seeking:
·        to access to data at all times
·   to avoid additional expenses on hardware as space requirements grow
·        to relieve burden on IT Professionals and frees up their time for other projects
·        to get the support of your service providers

Disadvantages

·        The main concern for companies outsourcing their hosts is security. All data is open to the provider, who may or may not be trustworthy.
·        Company has no longer complete control over the remote servers, their software, or their security.
·        It may be hard to migrate large amounts of data from provider

Conclusion

Cloud hosting is a great solution for small-scale projects run by small and medium businesses, as it allows to cut costs on hosting services drastically. However, as business grows, it requires more confidentiality and better control over information.

First Blog Entry

First Blog Entry

So, here I begin. Once I got to America, my wife told me: "Max, you've got to start your own blog. People will want to know how is your new American life going." I found hundreds of reasons and thousands of excuses to postpone it. I am a horrible procrastinator!
Well, writing a blog for me is no longer an option; it is my responsibility and duty, as I enrolled into Software Development Program at the Bates Technical College. It is a requirement for my class. From now on I will share with you, my dear readers, of what is going on in my computer classes and US education in general. It might be interesting for you to follow me in my academic adventures and comment on my intellectual endeavors.
First thing first. I guess in my first blog entry I have to explain why I decided to study computer science. I am completely new to the computer science as well as I am new to the US. I have a little background in computer science. As I ran an online bookstore www.turkolog.narod.ru, I had to teach myself some HTML coding, but this is about it. However, I liked what I did. I am fairly good with math which can predetermine success in this field. My younger brother is a computer science teacher in a high school back in Ukraine and he helps me a lot.
The most important thing that has determined my choice is the fact that proficiency in programming erases geographical and legal boundaries. It improves my chances for employment. It does not require a special certification, as long as I know ho to solve problems. I do need to get another license if I go another country, as many Ukrainian doctors and nurses that move to Italy, Spain, US or Canada. I can travel anywhere in the world and still be able to work for the best companies from abroad. Computer science is an interdisciplinary subject that helps people in virtually any  life situation. A degree in computer science opens multiple doors. I can choose to be anybody. I love languages, and by creating software similar to Rosetta Stone products I can express my desire to save endangered languages. My wife dreams of starting an NGO one day - I can help her to create a website. I can work as a programmer or teach computer science.
This is a field which demands that I do not stop improving, as programming languages emerge, develop and die all the time. It is mandatory to develop my skills all the time. This is a competitive race where every participant gets a prize - smaller or bigger one. It has no losers.
I am excited to start my new journey in the US. I am even more excited to learn programming here, in Washington, the cradle of computer science. I think, I will love it.
